When I finished designing the Water Crisis scroll for my Senior Integrative project, I decided to go to a printing company so that I could print the scroll on vinyl. When I came back to pick up the scroll, they were so impressed by my attention to detail that they offered me an internship for the summer.
Since starting there I have taken part in many projects for clients which have included graphic design and proof making, printing posters, stickers, signage, doing lamination, vinyl cutting and assembly.
It was one of my favorite experiences working in the creative field because the boss was so happy to teach me skills and was extremely respectful of my opinions as well. I felt that I was finally truly part of team and that I had value to to give to the company.
After the first month, I was also asked to start making their current store look more appealing to customers. At first the store had signage that was all different colors and the rest of it was paper stuck with tape onto the windows. There was also a lot of inconsistencies with typography. I am currently putting up all blue and white vinyl for the current signage and using the same typeface that they use in their logo. you can look at some before and afters below :
In order to create the signage, I first had to create outlined letters of the words "Kolossos" and "Printing" which I then sent to the Vinyl cutter. With the cutter, there comes a lot of pressure testing to make sure the blade will cut through the perfect amount of the vinyl. Once the vinyl is cut, I then weed and cut off all additional sticker on the page. Then I apply transfer tape, and it is ready to be put onto the windows!
Here is a rough draft of what I was envisioning to put onto each window. I took all the paper off and decided I would create illustrations instead that would go at the top of the windows (where the white space is) so that customers can better see it as they walk or drive by.
On top of working on the windows, I am also working on various rough drafts of a new design for their car as well as a new pricing menu to go inside of the store. Currently here is a rough draft of the design for the car which is in its very beginning of being designed. The requirements for this car are that they have to use the flowing drop shapes from their logo , as well as some circles, all the colors, and the Kolossos guy in the middle of their logo. However making their really colorful logo work with a gold car has been a challenge. I am trying to make it eye catching without being so blinding as the car seems to be right now.
